DQ381 TCU SOFTWARE Save £200! when you purchase ECU and TCU software together IS38 ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES The DQ381 gearbox was released into Volkswagen AG passenger vehicles back in 2017. The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (0GC) was derived from the advanced development of the previous 7-speed gearboxes, such as the DQ380 (ODE) and DQ500 (0BT), which had been used in commercial vehicles from 2010 and passenger vehicles since 2011. One key feature of the DQ381 gearbox was principally aimed at increasing efficiency. Unlike the DQ380 gearbox, the DQ381 was designed to be used in both FWD and all-wheel drive vehicles on the MQB chassis platform, such as the Mk7 Golf R, Audi S3, SQ2 and Cupra Ateca. This 7-speed wet clutch gearbox is already an improvement over the previous DQ250 6-speed, in terms of allowing the vehicle to shift more efficiently, and with a smother gearchange due to the closer gear ratios. However, driving a DQ381 equipped vehicle you will know that there are still areas that can be improved, especially on performance modes. With the stock calibration, you may find that gear shifts happen too low in the RPM range, or too high when in sports mode. These can lead to unsmooth driving, or make the vehicle feel too aggressive. You may have also experienced clutch slip when running performance ECU Software. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DRIVE. You can install Revo TCU software when at Stage 1 ECU, and it will cover you as you progress through the ECU stages without the need to change TCU software. SHIFTING Gearshift points in gearbox D and S modes have been enhanced and matched with Revo ECU Software. Meaning each gear shift will be at the optimal point to give the best possible performance and fastest acceleration. The shifting times have also been improved and made quicker in D, S and S manual modes. Tested on Stage 2 Audi S3 8V we saw an improvement of up to 0.4s on the 0-60mph time from launch over the stock TCU calibration. The 3-step launch control RPM limits have been optimised to offer 3 different RPM points depending on the throttle input 10-30% launches at 2200rpm, 45-79% launches at 3600rpm and over 80% launches at 4250rpm. When at partial throttle, the gearbox isn’t always looking for the highest gear, it holds the current gear longer. Keeping the turbo spooled and the vehicle within the right power band, thus not changing up and down the gears at much and therefore offering a smoother and more enjoyable drive. With 400PS and 480NM torque, an incredible 5 cylinder soundtrack, less weight than the previous model and impressive acceleration times, all the right ingredients are there. Intensively tested and refined over twelve months, throttle response has been dialled in to give the driver a deeper sense of connection and involvement with the car, something the stock model seems to lack. Rather than being pulled, the hike in torque gives the feeling of a firm push from the bottom of your back, and it’s addictive. The car now begs to be driven hard, it’s now able to break traction in corners, and dares you to bury your right foot. Optimised power delivery and with much more torque at its disposal, you can now drop below 4000rpm and still pull hard out of any corner without hesitation. 2.5 TFSI ENGINE A common issue shared with the pre-facelift 8v RS3, the 2.5TFSI is extremely sensitive to heat and fuel quality. Initial stages of Revo’s Software development process involve pushing the engine harder than usual to find limitations and restrictions. The team found that running more power and torque offered no improvements in acceleration times, negatively affecting the cars ability to consistently perform. Exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) were found to reach up to 960ºC when stock, this highlighted the importance of monitoring EGT’s to avoid risking exhaust catalyst (CAT) and engine failure. Revo Performance ECU Software for the TTRS & RS3 not only utilises the factory safety functions but actually improves them. You can switch between three pre-set fuel quality modes depending on the fuel you use; these modes are set through testing our development vehicles in varying climatic conditions with a range of fuel qualities throughout the world. The Revo SPS Software Switch is also available separately and can be used to quickly switch between performance modes and access the additional Anti-Theft mode. GPF DEVELOPMENT Rather than simply removing the GPF, and therefore making vehicles illegal for road use, we have been monitoring the effects that running higher power has on them. Our Stage 2 GPF software retains the stock downpipe, factory catalytic convertor and GPF 3, although we did upgrade the GPF back section on our own ST development vehicle to give more exhaust acoustics. Whilst we are not supporting GPF removal, over months of extensive development, we tested all variations of exhaust setups to determine the effects and restrictions of the stock downpipe and GPF. Although an exhaust system with no Catalytic convertor or GPF is always going to be slightly less restrictive than a stock system, we saw less than a 4% difference through a limited part of the rev range with little change elsewhere. There is a much more significant restriction closer to the engine; a combination of the integral manifold/port/turbine design. All Revo Stage 2 GPF software is specifically designed for a Stock downpipe and GPF. Removal of these parts whilst running Revo software may result in running issues and an engine management warning light. You can read more information on GPF on our blog. DYNO GRAPH @HUBS ADDITIONAL FEATURES COLD START PROTECTION For engine oil to work effectively and lubricate your engine it needs time to warm up. When you first start your car, the cold oil is at its thickest, producing higher oil pressure when pumped around the engine putting extra pressure on oil seals. As the engine temperature increases, so do oil temperatures. This thins the oil, enabling it to run more freely and better lubricate the moving parts of your engine. Cold Start Protection helps protect engine components by limiting turbo boost based on RPM and oil temperature until it reaches the 80ºC optimum operating level. TEMPERATURE PROTECTION Exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) are also monitored, adapting the operating conditions (Air Fuel Ratio) to ensure they stay within safe parameters. If EGT's reach a set upper limit, then power is automatically reduced until the engine returns to a safe operating temperature. EXHAUST OVERRUN The ST already comes with exhaust overrun through its Active Value Exhaust. This has been enhanced by Revo offering a variation in acoustics both in sports and track modes. The duration of the overrun has been increased over Stage 1 software. SWITCHABLE SOFTWARE1 Using an SPS switch you can take advantage of the switch-ability of Revo software. The Patented OBD2 interface is the ultimate compliment to Revo performance software, giving you the ability to switch between 3 fuel quality modes and an Antitheft mode via the vehicle OBD port. SPS Position 1 – Antitheft Mode SPS Position 2 – 95ron Performance Mode SPS Position 3 – 97ron Performance Mode SPS Position 4 – 98/99ron or 100ron Performance Mode (an option when installed) Simply select a program, plugin, wait a few seconds, remove the SPS device and start the car. It's simple and there's no fixed switch to install in the vehicle. ANTITHEFT MODE1 As well as the fuel quality modes, Revo software is installed with built-in Antitheft Mode. Once the vehicle is put into this mode via the SPS device the engine revs will drop and throttle response will be disabled.
